Hormones and sleep
Progesterone has a calming effect, so when it falls before a period, sleep often becomes lighter. In perimenopause and menopause, night sweats and hot flushes can wake you several times a night. Late pregnancy and the first months with a baby bring their own broken nights.
Building a better night
Keep a regular wake up time, even at weekends. A cool, dark, quiet room helps, as does putting screens away an hour before bed. Limit caffeine after midday and heavy meals late in the evening. If you wake at night, keep the lights low and avoid checking the time.
Support in this collection
Easee Sleep patches contain valerian, passionflower and hops, traditionally used for sleep. Meno Sleep is designed for the menopause years. The Stress & Sleep Kit and the Menopause Kit bring several products together.
When to see a doctor
Loud snoring with pauses in breathing, restless legs, or poor sleep lasting more than a few weeks deserve a medical opinion. Sleeping tablets and supplements should never be combined without advice.
